I'm returning to the Hi-Dive tonight, a venue quickly becoming a favorite spot to check out quality acts in a small, intimate setting. Two touring bands will be visiting Denver, both from the east coast, and one mysterious local band will be opening up the night. It seems all three bands have an experimental approach to indie rock, and that they all attempt to represent it in atypical fashion.

The headliner is Cymbals Eat Guitars, an indie rock band from New York City. This four piece band creates songs that are identifiably modern rock, but boast complex, non-linear song arrangements and clever structuring to create a unique sound. They will go from something that sounds almost pop-like, to noise rock, to post-punk, and then to alternative all in the course of one song - like taking a trip through various portions of indie rock history from song to song. Hooray For Earth is a Boston, MA indie rock band with a synth heavy experimental approach to the genre. Hooray For Earth's new album, True Loves, is an eclectic collection of songs that range from '80s inspired indie/synth-pop to something that can really only be described as Hooray For Earth. Check out the title track "True Loves" to see what I mean.

A Mouthful of Thunder is a local Denver created by Stephen Till, a former member of another local band called Hearts of Palm. I have absolutely no idea what this band will sound like, as I have been unable to find out any additional information, therefore this band is a complete wildcard.

The doors open at the Hi-Dive at 8:00PM and the music starts at about 9:00PM. This 18+ show is $12 at the door.
