Concerted Effort in conjunction with the Hi-Dive is proud to present Le Divorce's video release party on Saturday, March 10. As if the prospect of seeing this acclaimed Denver band and their new video wasn't enough, they will be joined by two other impressive local bands that will make the night a must-see start-to-finish event for indie rock fans. Seeing that all the bands feature styles and influences that stem from many eras of music, it essentially makes the night an encompassing journey through time viewed through the lens of modern rock.

Fresh off the release of their EP The Sting And The Light, Le Divorce returns to the stage for more celebration - this time for the video release of their single "Under The Boxcars". This four-piece band is Denver's premier representative of post-punk and alt-rock, heavily influenced by pivotal bands from the late '80s through mid '90s, but given a fresh interpretation that holds its own today. With performances full of energy and presence, Le Divorce is sure to deliver a party, and if you haven't seen the new lineup yet, you are in for a treat. Check out "Under The Boxcars" in preparation for the video below.

The next band on the bill, Varlet, will bring an indie rock sound rooted from influences a little further down the timeline. Varlet is a five-piece band from Denver with a truly genre bending sound. It is as if they took elements from '60s and '70s psychedelic rock, blended in a little '50s doo-wop and '40s classic country, put in elements of folk rock and jazz, and deliver the resulting sound draped around the framework of modern indie rock. Check out "Dirty Sock".

The night will begin with a performance from locals Rowboat. This evocative band creates a sound that seems to merge acoustic singer-songwriter folk with a subtle yet powerful addition of contemporary atmospherics - almost like a reincarnation of a classic folk-country-blues songwriter with its honest grit. They should evoke a mood of older, simpler times yet keep the listener rooted in the present. Check out "Under Street Lamps".

The Hi-Dive doors open at 9:00PM and the show starts at 10:00PM on Saturday, March 10. The show is 21+ and tickets are $6. Tickets and more information are available online here. (The lineup was recently modified and the link may not yet reflect those changes.)

The first show I covered for this blog at the Fox Theatre was an indie folk show, and since then I've developed an affinity for the two together. I've seen many different types of shows there before and since, and they were great, but there is something powerful to me about going to the Boulder Valley to the storied Fox Theatre for a show like the one upcoming on Friday, March 9th. Two of Denver's finest contemporary folk bands will be at this show, joined by a visiting a singer-songwriter.

The headliner is Paper Bird, a local eight-piece ensemble that has been continually capturing listener's ears and hearts since their inception about five years ago. With four albums under their belt, they have revealed incredible songwriting skill and musicianship through their repertoire of songs. Their music is driven by banjo, guitar, stand-up bass, percussion, trombone and intricate multi-part harmonies, creating contemporary folk songs with a host of other influences including world music, jazz, roots music and blues. Check out this amazing and eclectic piece, "Drekovsky", from their latest album Carry On.

Two other amazing musical forces will join forces in a performance on this night - Eye & The Arrow with Patrick Dethlefs. I have covered Eye & The Arrow on this blog before, and they have always impressed me with their rustic style folk. This time, the Denver trio will work together with singer/songwriter/guitarist Patrick Dethlefs. Patrick Dethlefs is based out of Kittredge, CO, where he learned to play guitar and began penning his own songs at an early age. His soothing voice, acoustic guitar and well crafted songs should pair well with the musicality of Eye & The Arrow. Check out "The Farther You Go".

Nick Jaina is a singer-songwriter based out of Portland, OR. He performs his music in various configurations, be it solo or with the help of up to a ten-piece backing band. He is doing a small tour in between a couple festivals, and this Fox Theatre show will be a stop along the way. For this show, he'll be accompanied by a drummer and bassist. It seems that in any configuration, Nick Jaina is able to deliver his beautifully constructed and heartfelt songs with powerful performances. Check out "Sebastopol (A Bird In The Opera House)".

The show takes place on Friday, March 9th at the Fox Theatre. The doors open at 8:30PM and the music starts at 9:00PM. The show is all ages and tickets are $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show (+$2 for under 21 tickets). Tickets and more information are available at the Fox Theatre website. You can also win tickets from Concerted Effort - check the Concerted Effort Facebook page for more details!

Rock: it comes in many forms and from many places, a constantly evolving genre that musicians continue to explore. On Wednesday, March 7, the Hi-Dive will host a couple indie rock bands from across the country whose experimental approach make them a couple of the genres modern explorers. Their creative use of influences and innovation make this show very appealing.

The headliner is Reptar, a five-piece band from Athens, GA. With guitar, bass, drums and keyboards in their arsenal, they create a synth driven modern rock sound that combines elements of psychedelic rock, indie-pop, disco-funk, world music, progressive rock, and a little bit of punk attitude - a truly eclectic combination of sounds that makes perfect sense once seen in the context of Reptar. Their fun, upbeat sound is propelled by the incredible presence and energy of this band - check out their prior coverage on this blog. They will be releasing their first full-length album this summer, so Denver will get a chance to hear some of their new songs live before they get released. Check out "Sebastian".

Finn Riggins is an indie rock trio originally from the small town of Hailey, ID. The best way to describe their sound would be experimental rock, but only because the songs in their repertoire encompass a wide range styles - from avant-garde to psych-rock to indie-pop, this trio is quite versatile. Despite only having three members in their band, they each exhibit a bit of multi-instrumentalism with a wide range of musical tools, including some items not normally considered instruments. Check out "BENCHWARMERS".

Quiet Hooves is indie pop-rock band also from Athens, GA. This band is a self-described "weird pop" band, an eight member ensemble who specializes in an unconventional sound. The band experiments with a range of styles drawing from influences both past and present to create a sound that sounds like a futuristic version of vintage music - think synth heavy classic country western or experimental, future-forward folk. Check out "Your Body".

The show takes place on Wednesday, March 7 at the Hi-Dive. The doors open at 8:00PM and the music starts at 9:00PM. The show is 18+ and tickets are $10. Tickets and more information are available online at the Hi-Dive website.
