Tonight is another busy one for Denver area live music. In to reggae? Tribal Seeds will be at the Gothic Theater. Jazz heads can check out The Bad Plus at Dazzle. If industrial metal is your thing, KMFDM will be at Summit Music Hall. Local band HoneyComb will be getting funky at Cervantes' Other Side. Singer-songwriter Andrew Bird will be at the sold out Chautauqua Auditorium. Local experimental rockers Vitamins will be playing a sold out show to kickoff their tour at the Larimer Lounge. As for me, I'll be heading back to the Hi-Dive to get another dose of folk tinged indie-rock.

Headlining the Hi-Dive tonight is the Portland band Typhoon. I'm not sure how many band members made the trip with the band to Denver, but Typhoon usually performs with about a dozen members on stage, using a very wide range of instruments. I'm especially hoping to see the french horn section featured in much of their songs. The music of Typhoon has a an introspective and emotional feel to it, which stems from the near death experience of songwriter Kyle Morton. Check out "Starting Over" and "Summer Home".

Lord Huron is the product of Ben Schneider, who left Michigan to start a band in Los Angeles. Although all the music was performed by Schneider on Lord Huron's EP recordings, Lord Huron performs live as a full band. Their musical style is very reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, using a lot of folk instrumentation and reverberated vocals. Check out "The Problem With Your Daughter" and "Mighty".

Sour Boy, Bitter Girl will open the night of music at the Hi-Dive, and they are more representatives of Colorado. Sour Boy, Bitter Girl come from Fort Collins, who take the folk framework and blend it with a mid-nineties alternative-rock sound - a mixture of Ben Folds and Crash Test Dummies. Check out "Desert Wolves" and "Waltz of the Sea Wolf".

It should be another quality night of music at the Hi-Dive tonight with some up and coming national bands, and it's always great to see what another local band has to offer. The doors open at 8:00PM and tickets are $12.
